Among more mainstream models, the consulting firm expects the new Mustang to drive a 20 percent boost in demand, to 91,000, in 2016. Even little Subaru has big expectations for the all-new WRX STi "hot hatch" that it is showing off in Detroit.

First of all, it's CNBC. Second of all, what pop-up add did you accidentally click on that took you to CNBC?

They thought "hot hatch" was just kid slaying for cool car. Like how kids call all their possesions "bling bling" and "texting" is doing anything on a cellular telephone. Now put away that nintendo xbox paddle, get your notebook computer, and google me a youtube my friend said she saw on the facebook today

It is a compact, which is what people traditionally associate with hot hatches.

That is a liftback. which is what a Mustang should be, but isn't b/c Ford thinks American's don't like anything that doesn't have a trunk, or a pickup box. BRING BACK THE FOX.

But to be clear, that piece of glass and metal that covers the trunk, that's called a "hatch" still right? Or is it a "lift?"

I've always a considered a hatchback to be squarer on the back which a liftback is more like a fast back. like the only AR86 was called a Tureno Liftback, or a Mazda 6. I think some Celicas we also called liftbacks. so liftback=sloped sporty just a coupe that is easier to use. White a hatchback is made to give more space, not so much for looks.
